Surf Guitarist, Singer/Songwriter Susan Surftone And Award-Winning Flutist Joanne Lazzaro Team Up For Exclusive Duet Single, Lava Walker
New York, NY (Top40 Charts) When a surf guitarist meets a hot-as-molten-lava flutist, the results are volcanic!
Critically acclaimed Susan Surftone and classically trained flutist Joanne Lazzaro teamed up to release "Lava Walker" - a musical visit to Kilauea on the Big Island of Hawai'i.

Susan Surftone (of Susan and the Surftones fame) and Joanne Lazzaro (award-winning classical, new age & world flutist) were chatting one day about vacations, inspiring Susan to start this song. Lava Walker tells the story of Joanne's trip to the Big Island of Hawai'i, and her experiences while "lava walking". Susan wrote the opening guitar riff introducing the note-jumping "lava walker" theme, and Joanne improvised the flute solos - first on classical flute, then on a triple-drone Native American flute. It's an emotional journey that is both physical (lava-walking) and spiritual (seeing the goddess Pele in action) - experiencing the overwhelming beauty of destruction and creation in person.

This single was recorded live at Kulak's woodshed on October 11, 2018, after having had one short rehearsal in Susan's apartment the week before. Charlie Lowrey, a percussionist friend of Joanne's, sat in on the song, hearing & playing it for the first time at the show. There is no musical editing, overdubbing, or added studio effects - it's a live recording straight from the show. Said Lazzaro, on seeing the video the next day - "Whoa - where did THAT come from?" and Surftone "Hey, this turned out great - let's release it!" and they did.
Listen to Susan and Joanne take their own walk on the wild side. The single is available on CD Baby, Spotify, iTunes, Apple Music and Amazon: https://joannelazzaro.hearnow.com/lava-walker-live?fbclid=IwAR2Da7lzGbeGD6ac1y_CvR6LSQHVPDiHw1nqn8u2i26LCgx7rBU1waVxPic

Surftone will kick off the new year with a brand new EP dubbed "Dicey After Dark", dropping on January 8, 2019 on CDBaby; and will return to Kulak's Woodshed for another "Hanging With My Sisters" show on February 6, 2019 during Grammy week.

Joanne Lazzaro recently released her second album "Canyon Shadows" by renowned classical flutist & composer Katherine Hoover, featuring her trio "Dreamcatcher". Recognizing her first effort as a Producer, "Searching - Desert Dawn Mix" from that album was nominated for a 2018 Hollywood Music in Media Award for Best World Recording.
